Athletic Program
The St. Pius V School Athletic Program provides students with the opportunity to develop their athletic skills in track, basketball, cheerleading, baseball, and softball. Student-athletes learn the rules of the sport as well as important life lessons of teamwork, cooperation, and sportsmanship. The athletic program aims to promote school spirit and further enhance the school's mission by teaching the "whole child."
Students in Grades 5 - 8 who meet the school's criteria for "DOING ONE'S BEST” and "BEING KIND TO OTHERS" during the school day are eligible to try out for a team. Students who are selected for a team must sign a contract and pay a fee before they will be allowed to participate. This contract states that a positive attitude and attendance at practices and games is required of each team member. Parents also sign a contract that lists the parental responsibilities when a child is participating in the sports program.
A Sports Banquet is held in the spring to celebrate all our athletes, coaches, and athletic directors.
track
Students interested in running track participate in the Catholic Elementary School Cross Country League. Track season runs in the fall. Cross Country provides students with the opportunity to develop their running skills while staying physically fit. The program also fosters the ideals of good sportsmanship and team camaraderie. Students train after school and compete against other local Catholic schools in both dual meets and championship meets.
basketball
St. Pius V has four basketball teams: Boys Varsity (grades 7-8), Girls Varsity (grades 7-8), Boys Junior Varsity (grades 5-6), and Girls Junior Varsity (grades 5-6). Basketball season runs during the winter months. Our teams participate in the North Shore Catholic Elementary School Basketball League (NSCESBL) with other Catholic schools on the north shore. Winning varsity teams from NSCESBL compete in the Archdiocese of Boston CYO Tournament. For more information on NSCESBL, including game schedules and scores, visit their website www.NSCESBL.com.
Cheer
Our Cheer program runs during the winter months. Cheerleaders improve their physical endurance, flexibility, and coordination all while promoting a spirit of unity among team members and our school community. Our cheerleaders perform their routines during Varsity Basketball home games.
Baseball/softball
St. Pius V has both a softball team and baseball team for students in grades 6-8. The season runs during the fall months. Our teams participate in the Lynn Public Middle School League as well as Salem. The games occur at the Breed Complex for both softball and baseball. This is a good foundation for students who can try baseball and softball for the first time in a low-stakes setting.
